The Common Cold Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
An acute upper respiratory tract infection, usualy catarrhal.
Causes:
An acute viral infection.
Symptoms:
Sneezing, headache, fever, sore throat, swollen eyes and throat, usually with a profuse nasal discharge, either clear or thick and purulent.
Treatment:
Aconitum napellus; Allium cepa; Arsenicum album; Bryonia alba; Euphrasia officinalis; Gelsemium sempervirens; Mercurius solubilis; Nux vomica; Sabadilla.
Aconitum napellus: Early stages of infection after exposure to dry cold weather; feverish, sneezing, thirst; burning and rawness of the palate. Worse in a stuffy atmosphere. No perspiration.
Allium cepa: Profuse, watery, acrid discharge with sneezing; nose and lips sore and raw. Worse in a warm room, better in the fresh air. Profuse, bland lachrymation with burning in the eyes.
Arsenicum album: Abundant, thin, hot, acrid excoriating mucus; burning discharges with lassitude and prostration. Patient feels chilly. Better with heat, warm food and drinks. Patient drinks little water at short intervals.
Bryonia alba: Hard, dry, shuddering cough. Worse in the daytime, often with stitching-like pains on the side of the chest. Worse with cold; thirsty for large quantities of cold water at long intervals. Holds chest and head when coughing. Better when lying down.
Euphrasia officinalis: Acrid lachrymation; bland, profuse coryza with violent and frequent coughing
Gdsemium sempervirens: For the mild, acute cold, with much shivering and chilliness. There is a watery discharge from the nose. The throat is hot and dry. Great weight and tiredness of the whole body, chills going up and down the back of trunk. Thirstlessness.
Mercurius solubilis: Sweating from a febrile, exhausting cold with severe inflammation of the throat. Foul greenish-yellow mucus that is coughed up.
Nux vomica: One of the best remedies. Nose feels tight; headache, constipation, stuffed nostrils at night. Patient is chilly and generally thirstless.
Sabadilla: Spasmodic sneezing, with a running nose. Redness in the eyes and lachrymation.
