Progressive Bulbar Palsy Homeopathy Remedy

Definition:
Progressive bulbar palsy is progressive paralysis and atrophy of the muscles of the lips, tongue, mouth, pharynx and larynx. It is a chronic, fatal disease. Aphasia occurs due to acute or chronic forms of bulbar palsy. Speech, swallowing and respiratory functions may be affected.

Causes:
Lesions on the motor nuclei of lower brain-stem. Generally seen in patients with multiple sclerosis. Cerebral hemorrhage or thrombosis. Embolism.

Symptoms:
Sudden or chronic loss of the ability to articulate or there may be confusion of words. Difficulty of deglutition.

Treatment:
Anacardium orientate; Arnica montana; Causticum; Cheli-donium majus; Lycopodium davatum.

Anacardium orientate: Patient feels as if there is a plug blocking the throat, mouth or tongue, so that the speech is not enunciated correctly and the tongue cannot function properly. Patient generally feels better after meals.

Arnica montana: Often helpful when the aphasia follows immediately after an acute stroke, and is helpful at an early stage of the condition in general. When there is a blood clot, Arnica will help to organise it. orientate: Causticum: When due to paralysis of muscles of both phonation and degluttition.

Chelidonium majus: This is a very useful remedy, especially when there is associated deafness.

Gelsemium sempervirens: The tongue feels thick, paralysed, slow and non-responsive to the mind and the impulse to speak. Patient is very irritable and words are enunciated disjointedly.

Kalium bromatum: The patient is confused and fearful. Complete loss of memory, unintelligible; words are disjointed, wrongly used and out of place; patient is agitated and is fearful of being left alone.

Lycopodium clavatum: Helpful when words can be pronounced slowly only with the greatest difficulty.
