Paraplegia Homeopathy Remedy

Definition:
Paraplegia is a paralysis of the lower limbs and the lower half of the trunk, while monoplegia is paralysis of one limb.

Causes:
Usually caused by trauma, inflammation, hemorrhage or tumor involving the spinal cord.

Symptoms:
Weakness of the trunk below the site of the lesion. Weakness or paralysis of the lower limbs. Bladder and bowels symptoms occur (retention of urine and constiptation); impotence; loss of sensation; bedsores, spasticity and contractures cf the limbs also occurs.-

Treatment:
Argentum nitricum; Causticum; Cocculus indicus; Conium maculatum; Cuprum metallicum; Gelsemium sempervirens; Nux vomica; Phosphorus; Plumbum metallicum; Rhus toxicodendron.

Argentum nitricum: Paralysis with mental and abdominal symptoms, especially rigidity and spasms in calves; worse with warmth and at night; better after ercutation, fresh air, cold, pressure; great desire for sweets.

Causticum: Paralysis of extremities with numbness, worse in the cold, clear or fine weather; better with warmth, wet weather; aversion to sweets.

Cocculus indicus: For very weak patients; sensation of hoilowness or emptiness, as if the legs have gone to sleep; one sided paralysis (paralysis is generally a monoplegia); worse after sleep.

Conium maculatum: Paralysis of the lower extremities with heaviness, ascending paralysis, worse when walking, weariness and trerribling; putting the feet on a chair (up) relieves the pain; often associated with aching in the right hypochondrium, on lying down.

Cuprum metallicum: Disorder begins on the left side; neuralgia oftheab- dominal viscera; tonic and clonic spasms of the extremities, beginning in the fingers and toes; worse before menses, after vomiting; better during perspiration and when drinking cold water.

Gelsemium sempervirens: Indicated when there is a complete flaccidity and prostration of the muscular system, with a quite extensive motor paralysis and when there are tremors; appropriate for the patient who is torpid, sleepy and dreads movement; the mental faculties are dull, the patient cannot think clearly or fix the attention; worse during strong emotions, when thinking of the disorder; better with continued motion.

Nux vomica: Sensation of an increased loss of power of the arms and legs in the mornings; mainly in males of rather thin constitution who are quick, nervous and irritable; mental workers who use stimulants such as coffee, alcohol in excess; worse during morning and mental exertion; better in the evening, at rest and with strong pressure.

Phosphorus: Ascending sensory and motor paralysis, extreme weakness and trembling with each exertion; paralysis worse, lying on the left side; better in the dark and lying on the right side. Patient prefers cold foods and cool drinks.

Rhus toxicodendron: Paralysis of the limbs; trembling after exertion; worse during and after rest, cold; feels better after changing position.
