Otitis Media Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
This is usually due to an infection of the middle ear; seen commonly in children. May be acute.
Causes:
Usually follows a chill or exposure to draft. The cause is often unknown. Acute infection, from the throat or an infection that is blood borne.
Symptoms:
Severe, unbearable, throbbing pain; fever, sweating, redness and headache. The acute pain, may be throbbing in character.
Treatment:
Aconitum napellus; Belladonna atropa; Chamomilla; Hepar sulphuris calcareum; Mercurius solubilis; Mercurius vivus; Pulsatilla nigricans.
Aconitum napellus: Acute onset; pain, fever, better with local heat. For very early, acute cases with fever, severe stinging pain, often throbbing due to a chill or sudden change of temperature. Worse at night and with dry, cold winds.
Belladonna atropa: Headache, sore throat, throbbing ear ache, redness of the right side of the face. Worse with movement, better with heat, no thirst. Very effective for acute disorders with a severe attack of sudden boring, tearing pains; fever, sweating. The eardrum is usually infected and tense. Worse at night and better with warm applications.
Chamomilla: Irritable and fretful. Severe, unbearable pain, pricking in nature. Worse with local heat, better with movement, if the child is carried around. Cheeks are red, and the patient is restless, worse at night and from cold.
Hepar sulphuris calcareum: Stitching pains, sore throat, chilly, peevish and irritable. Worse with any draft; often starts in the left ear and then affects the right ear.
Mercurius solubilis: Stitching, boring pains, sore throat, chilly, peevish and irritable. Worse with the least draft. Disorder generally starts from the left ear and then affects the right ear. Aggravated from the warmth of bed.
Mercurius vivus: Severe, sharp, lancinating pains, often with an icy sensation in the ear and a discharge of pus or blood. The temperature is often high and toxic; the child is restless and sweats profusely. A frequent and quite specific sensation of icy cold water in the ear is present, which is the clearest indication for the remedy.
Pulsatilla nigricans: Darting, tearing, variable pains; catarrh following measles. Caused by chill, after getting wet. Weepy and craves for company. A useful remedy for chronic infection. The ear is painful, hot and inflamed, with pains which are intermittent and variable. There is often a yellow greenish discharge. All symptoms are worse with heat. Patient is thirstless with a high temperature. Meningismus.
