Low Backache Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
Sciatica is a syndrome characterized by pain in the lumbar and sacro-iliac regions radiating along the distribution of the sciatic nerve, caused by the protrusion of a low inter-vertebral disk. Spondylolisthesis is refered to the forward displacement of one vertebra over another. Usually of the fifth lumbar over the body of sacrum or of the fourth lumbar over the fifth.
Causes:
Local arthritic changes, spinal displacement, rheumatism due to cold or humidity. Traumatic, degenerative. Congenita! malformations.
Symptoms:
Pain, stiffness, impaired mobility and sciatica. Pain from the gluteal region radiates to the knee and ankle along its posterior and lateral aspect.
Treatment:
Ammonium muriatiatm; Arnica montana; Arsenicum album; Calcarea fiuorica; Carboneum sulphuratum; Colacynthis; Gnaphalium; Kalium iodatum; Lachesis; Magnesium phosphoricum; Natrium muriaticum; Nux vomica; Plumbum metallicum; Rhus toxicodendron; Ruta graveoiens; Sepia; Tuberculinum.
Ammonium muriaticum: Worse when sitting and better during walking and after sleep. The pain is often left sided. Arnica montana: When backache follows trauma.
Arsenicum album: The pain is intermittent, better by gentle motion, worse at night, with cold and rapid movement.
Calcarea fiuorica: A burning pain, better with continued movement, worse after rest. The Calcarea constitution is characteristic.
Carboneum sulphuratum: Left sided sciatica, usually from a chill, paradoxically worse from local warmth. Stiffness is a presenting feature and walking is often impaired.
Colocynthis: Usually right sided disorders, worse from cold. The pain radiates down the leg to the foot and is paroxysmal, with numbness and weakness.
Gnaphalium: For severe pain and numbness along the whole sciatic nerve pathway, better with rest and sitting, worse from motion.
Kalium iodatum: Patient is worse in warmth, feels better on movement.
Lachesis: Sciatica in both lower limbs, better with gentle motion, worse at night, on left side, with cold and rapid movement.
Magnesium phosphoricum: Helpful in ail painful neuraigias. Usually relieves right sided sciatica.
Natrium muriaticum: Severe chronic backache, especially in a person who craves for salt. The pain is always better with firm pressure.
Nux vomica: The limbs are stiff, cold and feel paralysed. Better with heat. Usually worse at night in bed, so that the person has to sit up to turn over. The pain is dull and severe, at times darting and shooting in character. Often with morning aggravations. Constipation and irritability are common.
Plumbum metallicum: Similar to Gnaphalium with extreme constipation.
Rhus toxicodendron: A chronic condition with burning, tearing pains; better with heat and movement, worse at rest. Usually brought on by exposure to cold and damp. Worse when commencing movement after having been immobile. Usually better on bending backwards. Morning stiffness.
Ruta graveolens: Excellent for low lumbar pain, worse when sitting and lying down. Better with warmth. Rain often relieves, provided the patient is warm and is not chilled.
Sepia: Chronic dragging down low backache, worse when sitting and better with a cushion pressing on the area. Constipation, irritability and sallow skin is characteristic.
Tuberculinum: Similar to Kalium iodatum with mental restlessness.
