Hay Fever, Catarrh Homeopathy Remedy

Definition:
An allergic; catarrhal inflammation of the mucous lining of the nose and sinuses.

An acute, seasonal, catarrhal allergic complaint of the sinuses and nasal mucosa.

Causes:
Usually a viral infection; most likely, when resistance and vitality are lowered. Allergy to dust, grass or other pollens.

Symptoms:
Catarrhal discharge, the exudate is white, yellow or green, depending on the degree of infection.

All the symptoms of an acute cold; with running eyes, sneezing, catarrh and insomnia.

Treatment:
Allium cepa; Arsenicum album; Kalium bichromicum; Ka-lium carbonicum; Kalium iodatum; Mercurius solubilis; Mixed pollen; Nux vomica; Pulsatilla nigricans; Sabadilla; Teucrium marum verum.

Allium cepa: Profuse watery discharge, sneezing, burning and exco- riation of the nose and lip areas. Itching of the nose and eyes is marked with a very profuse, clear nasal discharge, which is acrid and excoriating.

Arsenicum album: Copious, burning, excoriating, clear, watery discharge; chilliness, craving for heat, great prostration, agitation, sneezing and watery eyes.

Kalium bichromicum: Thick, yellow and infected discharge, with a sore throat, hoarseness and tough stringy mucus. Often there is a cough, which is worse between about 4 and 5 a.m.

Kalium carbonicum: This is a very useful remedy in severe hay fever. Expectoration is thick and yellow, worse in the morning and evening, and worse in a dry, hot atmosphere, between 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. Sore throat, sneezing and swelling of the upper lip are characteristic. Symptoms include a clear or yellow discharge, sore throat, sneezing and watering of the eyes. Usually the patient is worse indoors and is relieved by fresh air.

Kalium iodatum: Thin, burning discharge, hot and acrid, with puffy eyes and sore throat. The nose is red and irritated.

Mercurius solubilis: Foul breath and infected throat; thick and yellow discharge, often with enlarged and tender cervical glands.

Mixed pollen: Potentized Mixed pollen is very useful in (late summer and early autumn) hay-fever. Nux vomica: Useful in the early stages of a cold with associated

nasal catarrh; sinusitis. Constipation, backache and irritability tend to be associated. The patient is chilly and feels better on covering.

Pulsatilla nigricans: The catarrh is variable in frequency and intensity, with a discharge which may be clear, yellow or green. Usually worse in the evening and at night. The patient is chilly, but prefers a cool room with the windows open to breathe fresh air.

Sabadilla: Useful in hay-fever with a profuse, watery discharge, sneezing and frontal sinus area headache.

Teucrium marum verum: One of the most helpful remedies in hay-fever due to grasses (in spring). Chronic nasal catarrah with loss of smell. Nasal polypi. Itching of the anus (due to thread worms) with restlessness at night.
