Colchicum autumnale: Indicated where there is a swelling usually of the big toe, which is red and exquisitely tender to touch. The pain often shifts from one joint to another. Usually there is an associated abdominal fullness and a sense of weakness. Irritability and anger are common. An immediately effective remedy. Relief takes place in a few minutes.
Ledum palustre: Pain in the ball of the great toe, worse from warmth, and movement. There is little swelling associated. The patient is chilly, and there may be nodules in other joints.
Unica urens: Particularly useful for acute gout. Intense burning and itching, with swelling of the affected areas.
