Facial Paralysis Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
Weakening or paralysis of the facial nerve of one side of the face.
Causes:
The cause of facial nerve paralysis is usually unknown. It may be due to inflammation in the region of the middle ear, probably as a result of exposure to cold or a virus infection. Geniculate herpes is also a cause. Twitching of the facial muscles occurs in facial hemispasm.
Symptoms:
At the onset there may be slight pain behind the ear, then pain generally disappears and unilateral facial paralysis rapidly sets in. The eye of the affected side cannot be closed, mouth is drawn to the opposite side. Taste may be affected on the same side.
Treatment:
Ammonium phosphoricum; Causticum; Gelsemium semper-virens; Ignatia amara; Plumbum metallicum; Rhus toxicodendron.
Ammonium phosphoricum: Facial paralysis, commences acutely with sneezing and excessive running of the nose and inflamed eyes, worse in the mornings.
Causticum: The weakness progresses gradually. Paralysis is usually on the right side of the face, the skin is dirty, pale, sallow complexion, sometimes with warts.
Gelsemium sempervirens: Indicated both in paralysis as well as in hemispasm.
Ignatia amara: Twitching of muscles of the face and lips; distortions on speaking. This remedy is especially useful for very nervous, hysterical subjects.
Plumbum metallicum: Useful in all muscular paralysis accompanied by severe constipation.
Rhus toxicodendron: Indicated in facial paralysis or hemispasm with chilliness, worseJn the evenings; better with changing position.
