Dysphonia, Aphonia Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
Infection of the vocal cords resulting in any impairment of voice or temporary loss of voice (common in the speaking trades).
Causes:
Infection, emotion, shock. Sometimes due to a new growth or over-use of the voice.
Symptoms:
Loss of voice, hoarseness or husky voice. Throat may be dry and sore.
Treatment:
Aconitum napellus; Arnica montana; Argentum nitricum; Belladonna atropa; Carbo vegetabilis; Causticum; Hepa
Aconitum napellus: For acute cases, usually due to exposure to dry, cold wind. Croupy cough; restlessness at night; anxiety. The patient feels chilly, has a dry skin and the voice is very hoarse.
Arnica montana: The larynx feels sore and swollen. An irritating cough is frequent. Particularly useful when the cause is shock or fear.
Argentum nitricum: Indicated in severe phobic or hysterical laryngitis. Often one cord is paralysed for no obvious reason. The symptoms are always aggravated with warmth. The patient feels better in open air.
Belladonna atropa: Useful when there is high temperature, a red flushed face with dilated pupils, sweating and pain in the throat and a dry barking cough.
Carbo vegetabilis: For painless hoarseness, usually caused by exposure to damp cold air, usually worse in the evenings. The patient feels chilly or sweating and has a poor peripheral circulation.
Causticum: One of the best remedies for hoarseness, accompanied by a dry rawness in the throat, experienced under the sternum. There is an associated hollow, irritating cough. Often, the voice is nearly lost and the patient can only speak in a whisper or not at all.
Hepar sulphuris calcareum: A very useful remedy for hoarseness, which is worse in the morning, caused and worsened by a dry cold wind or draft and better with warmth, (hoarseness in singers and public speakers, responds well to this remedy).
Oxalicum acidum: Severe laryngitis with a painful and raw sensation in the throat. Considerable lowering and deepening of the voice.
Phosphorus: A characteristic hoarseness, worse in the evenings with a sore dryness in the larynx and a rough voice. Talking is extremely painful. A dry cough is often present. Patient prefers cold food and drinks.
