Deafness Homeopathy Remedy

Definition:
Loss of hearing, usually in the elderly.

Causes:
Degeneration, sequel to inflammation. Noise pollution.

Symptoms:
Loss of certain notes and sounds, or a complete loss. Often worse in a noisy room or when addressed indirectly.

Treatment:
Carbo animalis; Chenopodium; Graphites; lodium; Phosphorus; Pulsatilla nigricans; Salicylicum acidum.

Carbo animalis: Patient complains it is impossible to identify from which direction the sounds come.

Chenopodium: Deafness specifically to low tones. Usually the auditory nerve is involved.

Graphites: Better with movement in a car, hears better in noisy areas. An associated eczema behind the ear is common, which oozes a sticky, honey coloured discharge.

lodium: Useful in temporary (catarrhal) deafness.

Phosphorus: Most valuable for problems in the elderly - often in a room, when there are several sounds present, or the conversation is indirect.

Pulsatilla nigricans: With exquisite pains, worse at night and worse with heat. There is often a yellowish-green discharge from the ear.

Salicylicum acidum: Useful in simple progressive deafness, often associated with Meniere's disease.
