Cough Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
A sudden, noisy expulsion of air from the lungs caused by an infection, irritation or inflammation of the membranes lining the air passages of the lung.
Causes:
Many different causes. The cause of a chronic cough must always be further investigated. Any mechanical obstruction must be removed. Infections and tumors must recieve appropriate therapy.
Symptoms:
Coughing as a reflex action takes several forms; dry cough, laryngeal cough, hoarse cough, loose cough, phthisical cough, nervous cough and spasmodic cough. Each has its own homoeopathic management.
Treatment:
Allium sativum; Alumen; Ambra gresea; Belladonna atropa; Bromium; Bryonia alba; Corallium rubrum; Crotalus horridus; Dioscorea villosa, Hepar sulphuris calcarcum; Ignatia amara; Ipecacuanha; Kalium sulphuricum; Nitricum acidum
- Dry Cough
Alumen: Mucous membranes are red and swollen. Tickling sensation in the throat. Enlarged and indurated tonsils.
Belladonna atropa: Dry nose, larynx and trachea. Short, dry cough, worse at night. Respiration short, suppressed; sore larynx.
- Laryngeal Cough
Bromium: Raw throat, worse in the evenings. Deep red, pain on swallowing. Tickling sensation in the trachea during inspiration. Hoarseness when in an overheated environment.
Nitricum acidum: Dry throat, pain in ears. Mucus flows constantly. White patches and sharp pains (as if from splinters) during swallowing.
- Hoarse Cough
Bryonia alba: Throat sticks on swallowing. Tough mucus in larynx and trachea, loosened only after much hawking.
Hepar sulphuris cakareum: Sensation of a splinter or plug in the throat when swallowing. Stitching pains radiating to the ear when swallowing.
- Loose Cough
Kolium sulphuricum: Coarse rales, rattling sound of mucus in the chest. Worse in the evening and in a hot atmosphere. Croupy hoarseness.
Ipecacuanha: Coryza with a blocked nose. Sneezing. Wheezing cough, incessant and violent. Chest seems full of phlegm. Face blue while coughing.
Allium sativum: Rattling of mucus in bronchi, cough in the morning after leaving bed. Mucus expectoration is difficult to cough out. Sensitivity to cold air.
Crotalus horridus: Dry, swollen, dark red throat. Cannot swallow solids. Tight constriction of the throat.
- Nervous Cough
Ambra grisea: Asthmatic breathing with a spasmodic cough. Hoarseness on waking, worse in the presence of people. Tickling throat, chest oppressed, out of breath with a deep cough.
Ignatia amara: Feeling of a lump in throat. Choking sensation extending to the ears, inflamed tonsils with small ulcers on their surface.
- Spasmodic Cough
Corallium rubrum: Throat sensitive, with profuse mucus. Dry, suffocating cough which is very rapid and short, feels cold on deep inspiration.
Dioscorea villosa: Dry, irritating cough, with paroxysms following each other rapidly. Choking, worse at midnight; yellow expectoration, bleeding from nose and mouth, hoarseness. Sensation as if crumbs were lying in the throat.
