Contusion Homeopathy Remedy
Definition:
Due to a trauma to the orbit. Discolouration, due to bruising and blood seeping into the surrounding tissues from the ruptured blood vessels.
Causes:
Usually due to acute trauma to the orbit from a fall or a blow; also may be a symptom following concussion and fracture of the skull. Hypertension.
Symptoms:
Pain, tenderness, discolouration; red then later black swelling around the eye, which may be severe enough to obscure sight of the injured eye. Bleeding into the conjunctiva.
Treatment:
Arnica montana (lotion); Hamamelis virginica (lotion); Ledum palustre; Ruta graveolens; Symphytum officinale.
Arnica montana (lotion): The remedy of choice for typical bruising, swelling and pain due to a hemorrhage into the subcutaneous tissues (lotion and orally). Arnica montana internally in low potency is given for a few days until the bruising and swelling has subsided.
Hamamelis virginica (lotion): Used locally as a lotion to follow Arnica montana, if the area of redness and blueness has not completely resolved in a few days. It has a specific action on all venous hemorrhages and aids in their early resorption.
Ledum palustre: For tender, painful and hot swellings. Complements Arnica montana.
Ruta graveolens: A useful eye remedy and tonic, especially when there has been severe bruising of the surrounding soft tissues.
Symphytum officinale: The best remedy for an injury due to a direct blow.
