ANTHRACINUM

Anthrax micro-organism; A nosode

Clinical Picture:
In carbuncles and chronic ulcers; gangrenous ulceration, severe erysipelas; sloughing with intolerable burning. Carbuncles with severe burning pains; discharge of copious offensive pus.
When Arsenicum album or other remedies fail to relieve the burning pain of carbuncles or malignant ulceration.
Hemorrhages. Hemorrhoids. Blood oozes from the mouth, nose, anus or sexual organs; black, thick, tar-like, rapidly decomposing blood (Cro-talus horridus).
Septic fever, rapid loss of strength, sinking pulse, delirium and fainting (Pyrogenium).
Insect stings where the swelling changes color and red streaks radiate from the wound and map out the course of the lymphatics (Lachesis, Pyrogenium).

Modalities:
Worse:

Downward motion.
From a sudden, slight noise.
Smoking (which may bring on diarrhea).
Warm weather.
Before urinating.
After menstruation.
Better:
Pressure such as supporting the painful side with hand.
Evening.
Cold weather.

Relations:
Similar to Arsenicum album, which it often follows.

Summary of Indications:
Carbuncles - hemorrhoids - septic fever - lymphangitis.

Antidotes:
Nux vomica
