AMYLEUM NETROSUM

Nitrite of amyl, Amyl nitrite

Clinical Picture:
For nervous, sensitive, plethoric females, during or after menopause.
Often palliative in incurable cases (in very high potencies10 this remedy may cause euthanasia).
Rapidly dilates the arteries and accelerates the pulse, later causes severe weakness and retards the pulse.
Intense surging of blood to the face and head (Belladonna atropa, Glonoinum).
Craves for fresh air; opens clothing and collar, removes bed-coverings and opens windows even in the coldest weather (Argentum muriaticum, Lachesis, Sulphur).
Flushing commences in face, followed by sweating, often hot and profuse. This hot area is limited, while parts below are icy cold; great prostration. Face flushes at the slightest emotion (Ferrum metallicum).
Blushing, chronic or acute; sea sickness.
Hemicrania, the afflicted side is especially pallid.
Collar seems too tight, patient must have it loose (Lachesis).
Angina pectoris; palpitation; intense throbbing of heart and carotids (Glonoinum, Belladonna atropa).
Puerperal convulsions commencing immediately after the delivery. Strange, Rare, Peculiar.
Constant stretching of body for hours, impossible to satisfy this curious desire; patient may seize the head of the bed and call for help to stretch the body. Profound and repeated yawning (Ka-lium carbonicum).

Modalities:
Worse:

Mental or physical exertion.
Better:
Loosening clothing.
Stretching the body.

Relations:
Similar to Belladonna atropa, Cactus grandiflorus, Ferrum metallicum, Glonoinum and Lachesis.

Summary of Indications:
Climacteric disorders - angina pectoris - migraine - sea sickness, puerperal convulsions.

Antidotes:
Camphora officinalis
Coffea cruda
Nux vomica

Note:
Acts promptly by inhalation of the mother tincutre. Crude drug is chiefly palliative. Must be repeated as patient becomes accustomed to it. Is curative in the higher potencies (see foot-note).
